The New Music Ensemble at Grand Valley State University is an undergraduate ensemble that promotes the music of our time through commissions, tours, recordings, collaborations, outreach events, and workshops. Founded in 2006 by its director Bill Ryan, the ensemble not only prepares students for careers that include contemporary music, but helps them to become exceptional educators, advocates, and leaders in the field.

We join an all-star roster to premiere a new work by John Luther Adams on the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival.

We receive a New Music USA Project Grant to support Music in their Words.

Our National Parks Project announced! Touring the southwest United States April 27-May 6.

We perform the world premiere of Red Vesper, commissioned from composer David Biedenbender, at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

We can be heard on Stereo is King, a new CD of chamber music by Mason Bates.

We perform the world premiere of Wide Open Spaces, commissioned from composer Armando Bayolo, on our fall concert.

We make our third appearance at Strange Beautiful Music, New Music Detroit's annual 8-hour new music marathon.

Michael Langan's short film Choros, with our Music for 18 Musicians CD as the soundtrack, continues to make the film circuit rounds. Screenings in 2013 throughout the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
